This is Susan Wiley.
Known by her nickname Ginny, she was abused her entire life. From birth until she was 13, she spent her entire life in a room.
Susan grew up with a very abusive father who would hit her for making any noise. She was neglected. She was emaciated in her room. It's amazing she even survived. Her parents had three other children, two of whom have died. The detective at the scene described her room as follows:
"Ginny slept in a small crib made of wire mesh with a latch," he said. "It was a cage for babies. The windows were covered with aluminum foil to reflect the sunlight. The room was as dark as a coal mine in the middle of the night."
A baby died because its father could no longer bear to watch it cry. The father wrapped her up, put her in a drawer, and left her there until she died.
As a result, Susan never learned many of the basic physical, mental, and social skills we all possess. She could barely walk, but she didn't know where to pee or poop. She was never taught to speak. When social workers found her, she couldn't speak or understand.
After that, she became psychologically obsessed with the world. Of course, they helped her to some extent, but in my eyes, she was seen not as a fragile, vulnerable human child, but more as an experimental specimen.
For the rest of her life, she lived in the homes of multiple foster families. In those homes, she was abused and neglected again.
Today, she is in an adult care facility.
Every time I think about her story, I feel very sad. I'm sure other people feel the same way, very sad.
