Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes, once traveled to Switzerland. Upon arriving, he took a taxi, and the driver told him that he would not charge him if he would kindly sign and dedicate a book for him.
Surprised, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle asked the taxi driver how he knew that he was a writer. The driver replied:
"Easy — your shoes are covered with a kind of dust that isn’t from here. From the design of the shoes, I can tell they’re English, so that’s English dust. You also have an ink stain on your fingers, so you must be a writer — and a British one."
Amazed, Conan Doyle responded:
"You’re smarter than Sherlock Holmes!"
"Yes, sir," said the driver, "and besides, your luggage clearly says Arthur Conan Doyle on it."
