Its such a sad story of a girl named Masha Bruskina. She was only 17 years old, which is basically a kid, but she was braver than most adults.
She was a Jewish nurse in a place called Minsk. When the war started she joined the resistance right away to fight the Nazis. Her job was in a hospital where they kept Soviet prisoners, and she would sneak in civilian clothes and fake ID papers so the soldiers could escape and go back to fighting. But someone ended up being a snitch and told on her. Even though they tortured her she never gave up any of her friends names.
On October 26 1941, they hung her in public. She was with a 16 year old boy named Volodia and another man named Kiril. The really messed up part is that for a long time after the war, the Soviet government just called her the "Unknown Girl." They did this because they didnt want to talk about her being Jewish. It took decades for people to finally give her name back.
If you look at the pictures of her on the gallows, she is actually turning her head away from the German cameras. She was defying them until the very last second. She wasn't just a victim, she was a total hero.
