It was a phrase uttered by the 27th president of the United States, William Howard Taft.
Famous for being the most corpulent president in history (he had a custom-made bathtub and bed built in the White House), he was the author of one of the most endearing phrases uttered by a head of state in modern history.
During the 1912 elections, our man was struggling to climb the stage stairs and reach the podium to begin his speech.
At one point, a spectator threw a vegetable, reportedly a cabbage, at the president-elect. Taft bent down, picked up the cabbage, and showed it to the audience.
Smiling, he said: "I see that one of my political adversaries has lost his head!"
