What would have happened if Hitler didn't invade the Soviet Union, and instead allied with Stalin against the entire West?


 If Hitler had never attacked the Soviet Union and instead stayed friends with Stalin we would be living in a different world, a much darker one.



To be honest I think the only reason we still have freedom today is because those two leaders couldn't trust each other. If they had kept their agreement the UK would have been in trouble. Britain was already struggling during the air raids. Without the Eastern Front to worry about Hitler could have used all his tanks and planes to cross the English Channel. It's a thought.


I was thinking about this the day. If that had happened the Soviet Union would have given Germany all the oil and food it needed. The British blockade wouldn't have mattered. Just think about the Middle East! They would have just divided it between them.


The US would have been in a spot too. With our big industry trying to fight a combined German and Russian empire would have been like trying to stop a huge wave with a small bucket. It wouldn't have worked. We would have probably made a not-great peace deal just to survive. It's amazing that Hitlers dislike for communism was stronger than his sense. If he wasn't so set on invading Russia, the world as we know it today wouldn't exist. It's wild how one bad decision, by a leader saved us all.

 She was born into slavery in Tennessee, but during the Civil War she managed to escape and found her way to 23rd Indiana Infantry Regiment which was encamped nearby. She stayed with the regiment and worked as a nurse throughout the war. After the war, she moved north with the regiment and settled in Indiana, where she found work with some of the veterans of the 23rd. She applied for a pension after Congress passed the Army Nurses Pension Act of 1892 which allowed Civil War nurses to draw pensions for their service.  She was put on trial for killing her white employer, Earnest Knight, who she said tried to rape her. Lena claimed she killed him in self-defense, but an all-white, all-male jury convicted her, and she was sentenced to death. Her trial lasted only one day. Before she was executed, sitting in the electric chair, she said: “What I done, I did in self defense or I would’ve been killed myself. Where I was, I could not overcome it. I am ready to meet my God.” Lena was executed on March 5, 1945. She was the only woman ever executed in Georgia. She left behind three children. Her last words, along with her picture, are now displayed near the electric chair at a museum in Georgia State Prison in Reidsville.

 After World War II, some SS soldiers were tried and either executed or imprisoned, while others escaped or were let go. After the Waffen-SS killed American prisoners of war in 1944, American troops were told to shoot any SS members they saw, even if they tried to surrender.The Allies learned that the SS was targeting Jews and advised Jewish soldiers to change the religion on their dog tags or take them off.  The German army entered the war in 1939 in high-quality uniforms of thick wool and with a dark-green collar. The leadership spent a lot to ensure that the soldiers appeared shiny and professional with a victory likely to come fast.It was different in 1941 when the invasion of Russia took place. The military was not well prepared to the extreme cold. Guy Sajer in his memoirs describes how the men were forced to wrap their feet in straw or steal clothes off the conquered men just to get by. The catastrophe motivated Germany to prepare heavy reversible winter parkas, white on the outside and gray on the inside, and so on. By 1944 and 1945 Germany had ran out of resources.  No celebrations and parades were dealt with when German soldiers came back after 1945. The majority found the country lying in heaps of bricks and smoke. Many had spent time in Soviet prison camps, and they spent the next decades of their life not returning home until the middle of the 1950s. By the time they got home, they were not known to them.
