In 1971, Colonel Hackworth stunned viewers on ABC’s Issues And Answers, declaring,

His dissent ended his career and retired to Australia.


Wrote memoir “About Face” a raw account of combat and military bureaucracy followed by “Steel My Soldiers’ Heart” detailing his Vietnam command.


Founded “Soldiers For Truth” to secure better care for our troops.
