Are there any living descendants of Einstein?


 I say “at least” three because he is rumored to have fathered a daughter later in life, who was later adopted by his oldest son and raised under the name Evelyn Einstein. Of his son’s biological children, however, only one grandson grew to adulthood and had children of his own — Einstein’s oldest grandson, Bernhard Caesar Einstein.The photo above shows Einstein with his son and his grandson, Bernhard, in 1931. Bernhard married early and had his first son in 1955, the year Albert Einstein died. He never got to know his great-grandchild… later, Bernhard would have four more children, Einstein’s only known great-grandchildren. There was also another Einstein son, who was placed in a mental asylum at an early age and who never married. Then there was a daughter, Lieserl, who either died young or was given up for adoption due to some birth defect — if she did end up surviving in the care of others, she may have given Einstein further descendants, but we do not know. Lieserl, according to some sources, grew up in Serbia, which means there may be Einstein descendants alive in Serbia.

 She was born into slavery in Tennessee, but during the Civil War she managed to escape and found her way to 23rd Indiana Infantry Regiment which was encamped nearby. She stayed with the regiment and worked as a nurse throughout the war. After the war, she moved north with the regiment and settled in Indiana, where she found work with some of the veterans of the 23rd. She applied for a pension after Congress passed the Army Nurses Pension Act of 1892 which allowed Civil War nurses to draw pensions for their service. The War Department had no record of her, so her pension was denied.  She was put on trial for killing her white employer, Earnest Knight, who she said tried to rape her. Lena claimed she killed him in self-defense, but an all-white, all-male jury convicted her, and she was sentenced to death. Her trial lasted only one day. Before she was executed, sitting in the electric chair, she said: “What I done, I did in self defense or I would’ve been killed myself. Where I was, I could not overcome it. I am ready to meet my God.” Lena was executed on March 5, 1945. She was the only woman ever executed in Georgia. She left behind three children. Her last words, along with her picture, are now displayed near the electric chair at a museum in Georgia State Prison in Reidsville.

After the Waffen-SS killed American prisoners of war in 1944, American troops were told to shoot any SS members they saw, even if they tried to surrender.The Allies learned that the SS was targeting Jews and advised Jewish soldiers to change the religion on their dog tags or take them off.  The German army entered the war in 1939 in high-quality uniforms of thick wool and with a dark-green collar. The leadership spent a lot to ensure that the soldiers appeared shiny and professional with a victory likely to come fast.It was different in 1941 when the invasion of Russia took place. The military was not well prepared to the extreme cold. Guy Sajer in his memoirs describes how the men were forced to wrap their feet in straw or steal clothes off the conquered men just to get by.
