They were lifelong friends, and she later referring to him as one of her closest confidantes. Someone she trusted and felt comfortable confiding in.” (Internet).


It has been rumored he kept a diary since his teenage years, encouraged by Ms. Taylor. Why?


It's possible he experienced situations that, by today's standards, would be considered exploitative or abusive, but these are not “documented or widely discussed in the public realm.” He did write a memoir and “there was a rumored stipulation that it would not be published until 100 years after his death.”

He passed away on October 3, 1998, of lung cancer. He was 70. He never married or had children. Ms. Taylor was 79 when she passed away on March 23, 2011. They were friends for 55 years.
