Somewhere In Time was a romantic time


 Somewhere In Time was a romantic time travel film which starred Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour. Produced in 1980 Jane has since told that the romance between the two celluloid characters spread into real life when she fell in love with Christopher.


It tells the story of a man in the present who sees a portrait of a beautiful girl and is able to travel back in time where they meet and fall in love. It was based on a story by Richard Matheson who saw a painting of an old time actress, Maude Adams, not the present one best known as Octopussy, and was so taken by it he did research on her and came up with the story entitled, Bid Time Return.


Jane has revealed that she ‘’fell madly in love with Christopher.’’ She went to say, "When you see this film, you will see the real thing, But we didn’t let anyone know. So a few of the people who worked on the show kind of sussed it out, but we were as subtle as we could be about it. We were madly in love and life was wonderful. We were both single; it was a fantastic, amazing experience.”


Unfortunately the affair ended very abruptly. Christopher had recently split from a steady girlfriend, Gae Exton, and, before filming was finished, she got in touch to say she was pregnant. Christopher, still had feelings for her so broke off his relationship with Jane and returned to the mother of his child. Jane joked, she "put my big girl pants on but had tears coming halfway up my eyeballs.”


Christopher would have another child with Gae before splitting amicably in 1987. He would marry once more and remain so till his premature death.


Jane would go on to have four more husbands. She and Christopher remained great friends. ‘’We met one another on many occasions and remained really, really close friends, literally until the day he died. I have to believe that I will one day see him somewhere in time."

She stayed with the regiment and worked as a nurse throughout the war.  She was put on trial for killing her white employer, Earnest Knight, who she said tried to rape her. Lena claimed she killed him in self-defense, but an all-white, all-male jury convicted her, and she was sentenced to death. Her trial lasted only one day. Before she was executed, sitting in the electric chair, she said: “What I done, I did in self defense or I would’ve been killed myself. Where I was, I could not overcome it. I am ready to meet my God.” Lena was executed on March 5, 1945. She was the only woman ever executed in Georgia. She left behind three children. Her last words, along with her picture, are now displayed near the electric chair at a museum in Georgia State Prison in Reidsville.

After the Waffen-SS killed American prisoners of war in 1944, American troops were told to shoot any SS members they saw, even if they tried to surrender.The Allies learned that the SS was targeting Jews and advised Jewish soldiers to change the religion on their dog tags or take them off.  The German army entered the war in 1939 in high-quality uniforms of thick wool and with a dark-green collar. The leadership spent a lot to ensure that the soldiers appeared shiny and professional with a victory likely to come fast.It was different in 1941 when the invasion of Russia took place. The military was not well prepared to the extreme cold. Guy Sajer in his memoirs describes how the men were forced to wrap their feet in straw or steal clothes off the conquered men just to get by.
