In 1971, 17-year-old Juliane Koepcke was thrown out of a plane after it was hit by lightning.

She fell two miles through the air, still strapped to her seat, and somehow survived. Then she spent 10 days alone in the Amazon jungle.

On the tenth day, she found a small boat near a shelter. The boat still had some fuel in its tank.

Juliane poured the gasoline on her wounds to kill the maggots that had started infecting them.

Out of all 93 people on Lansa Flight 508, Juliane was the only one who survived the crash on December 24, 1971.
