The Nazi concentration camps were not prisons only.

They were constructed to dominate subjugate and in the end annihilate people deported there. The existence in there was full of The destruction through labor was one of these ways. Inmates were made to undertake tiresome work that was more times than not fruitless such as moving heavy rocks daily. They could eat just watery soup and scrap of bread. It was a starvation diet to allow their bodies gradually to give up.

They performed physical abuse. Almost anything would bring a beating to prisoners. Being hanged on a pole was one of the most awful punishments the hands were tied behind their back and they were suspended till their shoulders ripped. Others were kept in the small standing cells where they could not sit and had to endure pain and tiredness.

Medical experiments were also involved which introduced more horror. The surgeries sometimes conducted by the camp doctors were done without anesthesia or in some cases diseases were injected to them without an attempt to treat prisoners but rather to see how human beings can suffer.

It was equally dreadful in being psychological torture. Inmates existed under fear most of the times being made to witness the beating and killing of their loved ones. Their names were taken away and replaced with numbers thus destroying their identity.

With the war drawing to a close large numbers of the prisoners were taken out on death marches through freezing cold distances and any unable to keep up were killed.

Such camps were not regular jails. They belonged to a system that was invented to destroy mankind and humans entirely.
