World war l and ll



Imagine for a moment that you were born in the year 1900.
When you are 14 years old, World War I begins and only ends when you are 18, causing the death of 22 million people.

Shortly after that, a global pandemic appears — the Spanish flu — killing 50 million people. And you are still alive, now 20 years old.

At the age of 29, you survive the global economic crisis that began with the collapse of the New York Stock Exchange, causing inflation, unemployment, and hunger.

When you are 33 years old, Nazism comes to power.

At the age of 39, World War II begins and ends when you are 45, causing the death of 60 million people.

When you are 52, the Korean War begins.

When you are 64, the Vietnam War starts and ends when you are 75 years old.

Someone born in 1985, for example, thinks their grandparents have no idea how difficult life is, not knowing that they lived through — and survived — multiple wars and disasters.

Today, we have been living through a major pandemic for more than a year. We are scared and exhausted. We have lost friends and relatives, and we are afraid.
