If someone served in the military during the Vietnam War but did not have to go "in country", are they still a Vietnam vet?
The answer to this is that if they did not go to Vietnam the are not considered a “Vietnam Veteran.” But to clarify for people who were in the Navy right off the shore of Vietnam then in most all cases they are called “Vietnam Vets.” But for Navy personnel who were boots on the ground like myself (military police officer in jeep patrols in Danang, VN) there is some distinction from those who never landed there and remained on the water..
