She was the only daughter of a wealthy businessman. She inherited an estimated fortune of $7.5 million from her father. When she was 21, she moved to New York to invest money on Wall Street and was dubbed "the Wicked Witch of Wall Street."


She married a millionaire like her, but she still lived off the remains of broken cakes and cookies at grocery stores and fought to get a free bone for her dog every day.


Hetty Green was a very stingy woman, even though she was the richest woman in America during the Gilded Age. She sewed her own underwear from the age of 16 and did not change them or buy others until the day she died.


She never spent a cent, which is why it was said that she never used hot water, that she wore a black dress that she didn't change until it was completely worn out, and that she lived off a cake that cost only two cents.


She caused her son to have his leg amputated because when he broke it, she delayed treatment because she insisted on not spending money and kept seeking free medical care.


Hetty Green died in 1916 at the age of 81 in New York City and was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the “world’s most stingy person.”


The cause of her death was a stroke due to an argument with her maid over her demand for a raise on her meager salary. She died leaving behind a vast fortune, and her children did not inherit her extreme stinginess, but were generous to the point that her daughter built a free hospital with her money...
